Resize Video

Give your video the size a platform asks for without stretching it, or scale it down.

Your files never leave your device: they are processed in the browser and never uploaded.

How to resize a video

1

Choose the video

Choose a video from your computer or phone.

2

Pick the size

An exact size like 9:16 for Stories, then how to fill it: blurred background, bars or crop. Or “Make it smaller” to keep the shape.

3

Press “Resize the video” and download the new MP4.

Common video sizes

RatioSizeUsed for
9:16 vertical1080×1920Instagram and Snapchat Stories, Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts.
1:1 square1080×1080Square video posts.
4:5 vertical1080×1350Portrait video posts in the feed.
16:9 landscape1920×1080YouTube, screens and presentations.
Honest limits: Everything runs on your device’s processor without graphics acceleration, so anything that is re-encoded takes time: a minute of 720p video takes about two to three minutes on a recent computer in Chrome, Edge or Safari, and longer in Firefox, on phones and at 1080p or 4K. The first time, the browser downloads the processing engine (about 31 MB) once and keeps it. The file limit is 2 GB (we tested a 1.2 GB file on a computer); phones have less memory, so keep files there under about 500 MB.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a landscape video 9:16 without cropping?

Choose 9:16 and “Blurred background”: the whole video stays in the middle and a blurred, enlarged copy fills the space above and below.

Bars or crop: what’s the difference?

Bars keep the whole video and add edges in a color you pick. Crop fills the whole frame but cuts off the edges that don’t fit.

Does the file size change?

Yes, the result is a new MP4: scaling down makes it smaller, a larger size makes it bigger.

How long does resizing take?

Large sizes like 1080×1920 are heavy because every frame is redrawn: on a recent computer in Chrome each minute of video takes about 7 minutes, longer in Firefox and on phones. For long clips choose “Make it smaller” or trim the part you need first.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The tool runs inside your browser with the open-source FFmpeg engine; the file is read from your device and the result is saved back to it, never reaching our servers or anyone else’s.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in Safari (16.4 or newer), Chrome, Firefox and Edge, on phones and computers. Phones are slower and have less memory, so start with short clips.
