What the generator does
Cleans the title
Lowercases it, turns accented letters like é into e, and removes symbols and punctuation.
Drops filler words
Words like “the”, “and” and “of” add length without meaning. You can keep them if you prefer.
Joins with hyphens
Google recommends hyphens to separate words in URLs, so the slug uses them.
Rules for a good slug
Short and clear. Three to five words are usually enough. Leave out details nobody searches for.
Include the keyword. A slug like “website-design-riyadh” tells Google and visitors what the page is about.
Hyphens, not underscores. Google recommends hyphens (-); underscores (_) can join words together.
Don’t change it after publishing. If you change a live page’s URL, add a 301 redirect from the old one so you keep its visitors and rankings.
FAQ
What is a slug?
The last part of a page URL that describes its content, like “website-design” in example.com/website-design/. WordPress calls it the permalink or slug.
Should slugs include stop words?
Usually not. Removing words like “the” and “of” keeps the URL short without changing its meaning. Keep one if the slug reads wrong without it.
Can URLs be in Arabic?
Yes. Google supports URLs in any language and shows them in their own letters in results. They look long and encoded when pasted into some apps, though.
How do I change a slug in WordPress?
Open the page in the editor, find “URL” or “Permalink” in the sidebar settings and paste the new slug. Do it before publishing, or add a 301 redirect if the page is live.
Are my titles stored?
No. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
