When someone in Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam searches for what you sell, Google often shows a map of nearby businesses before any website. A Google Business Profile in Saudi Arabia is the free listing that puts your business on that map, in Google Search and in Google Maps. This guide covers who qualifies, setup and verification, the name and category rules that trip up many Saudi businesses, collecting reviews properly, and the mistakes that get profiles suspended.

In short:
- The profile is free. You qualify if customers visit your premises or you travel to them; a virtual office does not.
- Use your real-world business name: no keywords, no city names, and not repeated in both Arabic and English.
- Google decides how you verify, and you can't change the method.
- Ask every real customer for a review, but never pay or offer a discount for one.
- Keep your name, phone and address identical on your profile and website. Nobody can pay Google for a better local ranking.

Who can get a Google Business Profile in Saudi Arabia
A Google Maps listing in Saudi Arabia is free, but not every business qualifies. Google's guidelines for representing your business allow a profile when your business has a physical location customers can visit, or when your team travels to customers. A rented mailing address or virtual office where you don't actually work does not qualify, nor does a co-working desk without clear signage. Decide which type you are:
Storefront business
Customers come to you: a café, a clinic, a showroom. Show your address and opening hours.
Service-area business
You go to customers: maintenance, cleaning, moving. Hide your address and list the cities or districts you serve.
Hybrid business
You receive customers and also visit them, like an AC workshop with a field team. Show your address and add a service area.
Service areas are set by city, district or postal code, not as a radius. Google's help pages allow up to 20 and say the whole area shouldn't extend beyond about two hours' drive from your base.
How to get your business on Google Maps, step by step
Search for your business first
A listing may already exist on Google Maps. If so, claim it or request ownership instead of creating a duplicate.
Use an account the business controls
Sign in with a Google Account the business owns, not the personal account of an employee who may leave. An email on your own domain is ideal.
Add the business
Go to business.google.com/add and enter your name, primary category, address or service area, phone number and website.
Verify, then complete
Complete the verification Google offers, then fill in every remaining field before you share the listing.
Business name and categories: the rules that trip people up
Google asks for the name your business uses consistently in the real world: on your signage, website, stationery and with customers. Taglines, phone numbers, web addresses, service descriptions and locations don't belong in it, and adding them can get the profile suspended.
| Name field entry | Allowed? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your Business Name | Yes, if your sign says so | The real-world name |
| Your Business Name Riyadh – Villa Construction | No | City and service added as keywords |
| اسم نشاطك | Your Business Name | No | Same name in two languages |
| Your Business Name – Free Site Visit | No | Marketing tagline |
The third row surprises many owners, because Saudi shop signs often carry both scripts. Google's guidelines don't allow the same name repeated in several scripts or languages, even when your storefront does. Choose the version customers use and keep it identical everywhere. Legal terms such as "LLC" are generally left out unless you can prove they are part of your real-world name.
Choosing categories
Your primary category tells Google what you are. Pick the most specific one that describes your core business. Google lets you add up to 9 more, but advises using the fewest it takes, and choosing categories for what the business is, not what it has or sells. A car service centre with a coffee corner is not a café. Never add a category just as a keyword.
Google Business Profile verification: what to expect
According to Google's verification help page, the method is chosen automatically, based on factors such as your business type, public information, region and hours, and can't be changed. You may be offered:
- A code by phone call or text message (automated phone menus won't receive it).
- Email to an address shown on screen.
- A video recording, which Google recommends when you are eligible.
- A live video call with Google support during your business hours.
- A postcard with a code, which usually arrives within 14 days.
Google says verification reviews can take up to 5 business days. Some profiles are verified instantly, for example when the business website is already verified in Google Search Console.
For a video, start outside so your sign and street are visible, then show that you run the place: unlock the door, show the inside and your equipment. If you're waiting for a postcard, don't edit your name, address or category, or the code will stop working.
Fill in every field: hours, photos and posts
Complete, accurate information helps Google match your profile to the right searches. Once verified, work through this list:
- Hours. Regular hours plus special hours for Ramadan, Eid and National Day, set in advance.
- Phone. A number that reaches your business directly; Google prefers a local number to a central call centre.
- WhatsApp. In some regions you can add a WhatsApp chat link under Contact. If you see the option, use the same number as on your website.
- Website. Link to your own site. Google's guidelines say the link shouldn't send people to other landing pages, and they name pages created on social media sites, so use your website rather than an Instagram page.
- Description. Up to 750 characters on what you do and where. No links, prices or promotions.
- Services and photos. What you actually offer, in customers' words, and real photos of your entrance, interior and work.
Then keep the profile active with posts: updates, offers or events. Google reviews each post and may reject one with an unverifiable phone number in the text, so keep contact details in the profile fields. Posts older than six months are archived unless you set a date range.
Reviews: ask every customer, never buy them
Google states that more reviews and positive ratings can help your local ranking. So ask every real customer: Google gives you a review link and QR code to add to your WhatsApp message after a job, your invoices and a card at the counter.
Google's Maps content policy prohibits:
- Reviews paid for, directly or in kind, including review packages sold online.
- Incentives such as discounts, free goods or services in exchange for a review.
- Asking only happy customers, or discouraging negative reviews.
- Reviews from people with a conflict of interest, such as employees, and reviews posted to damage a competitor.
Google removes such content, and the accounts involved can lose posting privileges or be terminated.
Ask every customer for a review. Pay none of them for it.
Reply promptly and briefly, in a conversational rather than promotional tone. With a negative review, don't argue or reveal private details: acknowledge the problem and say what you changed. Your reply is written for the next customer as much as for the reviewer.
Why your website still matters for local SEO in Riyadh
Google's local ranking help page names three main factors: relevance (how well a profile matches the search), distance (how far you are from the searcher) and prominence (how well known you are). It also states that there's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. You can't change distance, but your website supports the other two:
- Detail. A profile is short by design. Your website holds service pages, areas covered and answers to common questions, and can appear in the regular search results too.
- Links. Google says prominence also reflects how many websites link to your business, and suppliers, directories and local media need a website to link to.
- Consistency. Use the same name, phone number and address on your website, profile and social accounts, so no customer calls an old number.
- Conversion. The profile earns the click; the website turns it into a call. See our guide to trust signals that turn visitors into enquiries.

Common reasons profiles get suspended
Google can suspend or disable profiles that don't follow its guidelines. Most problems trace back to the rules above:
- Keywords, city names or taglines in the business name.
- An ineligible address: a virtual office, a P.O. box, or a co-working desk without signage.
- A service-area business showing an address where it doesn't receive customers.
- Duplicate profiles for the same business and location.
- Fake or incentivised reviews.
- A phone number the business doesn't directly control.
If it happens, fix the cause, then appeal through Google's appeals tool with documents, such as a business registration, licence or utility bill, whose name and address match your profile exactly; for a Saudi business, start with your commercial registration. Google notes that an appeal can be submitted only once, so prepare first, and don't create a new profile for the same business.

FAQ
Is Google Business Profile free in Saudi Arabia?
Yes, adding or claiming a business is free. Google Ads is a separate paid product, and there is no way to pay for a better local ranking, so be wary of anyone selling guaranteed map positions.
How long does Google Business Profile verification take?
Google says verification reviews can take up to 5 business days, occasionally longer. Some profiles are verified instantly, and postcard codes usually arrive within 14 days.
Can I get on Google Maps without a shop or office?
Yes, as a service-area business if you travel to customers. Hide your address and list the areas you serve. A virtual office is not eligible.
Can my business name be in Arabic and English on Google Maps?
Not side by side in the name field; Google doesn't allow the same name repeated in two languages. Use the version customers know and keep it identical on your website.
Do I need a website if I have a Google Business Profile?
Not to create one, but a website holds the detail and earns the links a short profile can't, and gives customers a place to check you before they call.
Summary
A Google Business Profile in Saudi Arabia is free and often the first thing a local customer sees. Confirm you qualify, use your real-world name in one language, choose few and specific categories, and complete the verification Google offers. Then fill every field, keep holiday hours current, ask every customer for a review without incentives, and keep your website's name, phone and address identical to your profile. It is slower than the shortcuts sold online, but it builds a listing that lasts.
