Tips for parents

Start with capitals. They are easier for little ones to tell apart; then match each to its small letter.

Name and sound differ. B is called “bee” but sounds “b” in ball. Say both.

Use their world. Ask for things at home that start with the same letter.

X is special. Few children’s words start with it, so its example is fox, with x at the end.

FAQ

How many letters are in the English alphabet?

26, from A to Z, each with a capital (uppercase) and a small (lowercase) form.

What are the vowels?

A, E, I, O and U, and sometimes Y. The other letters are consonants.

Capital or small letters first?

Many teachers start with capitals because they are easier to tell apart, then add small letters, which children read most in books.

Why can’t I hear the pronunciation?

The voice comes from your own device (the browser’s text-to-speech), so nothing is sent to a server. If your device has no voice for that language, a note tells you, and you can add one in your device settings. Most Android phones and iPhones have an Arabic voice; on Windows you may need to add the Arabic language with its speech feature.

Do you keep anything about my child?

No. The tool runs only in your browser, with no account and no ads, and nothing is sent to a server.
