How to use it
Paste the names
One per line, or one line separated by commas. The list stays in your browser for next time.
Choose the settings
How many names per draw, and whether a picked name leaves the draw until everyone has had a turn.
Press “Pick a name”
Names roll for a moment, then the winner appears; results are kept in order to copy.
How we keep it fair
Secure generator. We use the browser’s crypto.getRandomValues, not Math.random, with a method that avoids any lean toward some names.
The winner comes first. The rolling names are only for fun; the result is drawn before they start.
Tested with numbers. We drew a million times and checked with a chi-square test that every name comes up at the same rate.
Duplicate names. A name typed twice gets two chances, which is handy for two students with the same name.
FAQ
Is it really random?
Yes. Every name has the same chance, drawn by the browser’s secure random generator; nobody can steer it.
What does “no repeats” do?
A picked name leaves the draw, so it can’t come up again until everyone has had a turn or you press “Start over”.
Can I pick several names at once?
Yes. Set “How many names per draw?” and you get that many different names.
Are the names sent anywhere?
No. The list stays in your browser on your device and is never sent to a server.
