How to convert CSV to Excel
Choose the file
Choose one or more CSV files, or drop them in the box.
Check the preview
The encoding and delimiter are detected. If the preview text looks garbled, pick another encoding, like “Arabic Windows-1256”.
Download Excel
Press “Convert and download Excel”. Several files become sheets in one workbook, or separate files if you choose.
How values are converted
Only clear-cut values are converted; anything Excel could damage stays text:
| In the CSV | In Excel |
|---|---|
| 1250.75 | Number |
| 1,250.75 | Number with a thousands separator |
| 15% | Percentage |
| 0501234567 | Text as is, so the leading zero of a phone or ID number stays |
| A number over 15 digits | Text as is, because Excel keeps 15 digits and turns the rest into zeros |
| 2024-01-15 and 2024-01-15 13:45 | A real date you can sort and calculate with |
| 15/01/2024 | Text as is, because it could be day/month or month/day |
| =SUM(A1:A3) | Text, not a formula: protection against harmful formulas in unknown files |
FAQ
Why does Excel show garbled characters when I open a CSV?
Excel reads the file in the wrong encoding. Here the encoding is detected (UTF-8, or Windows-1256 that older Arabic Excel writes) and the result is saved as xlsx, which doesn’t have this problem.
Do leading zeros stay in phone and ID numbers?
Yes. Any number starting with 0, and any number longer than 15 digits, stays text exactly as written instead of a number that loses its zero or last digits.
How do I combine several CSV files into one Excel file?
Pick the files together and keep “Each file as a sheet in one Excel file”. To stack them all into one sheet, use Merge Excel Files.
Are dates converted?
Yes, when written as 2024-01-15 (with or without a time). 15/01/2024 and similar stay text because they can be read more than one way. You can turn number or date conversion off in the options.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read and converted inside your browser and never leaves your device.
