Zip Files Online

Choose files or a whole folder and get one ZIP file that is smaller and easier to send.

Your files never leave your device: they are read and saved inside the browser.

    How to zip files

    1

    Choose the files

Choose files, a whole folder, or drop them in the box. You can add more than once and remove what you don’t want.

    2

    Set the options

Compression level, the file name, and a password if you want to protect it.

    3

    Download the ZIP

Press “Zip and download”; you see its size before and after.

How much smaller will it get?

It depends on the type of file:

    File typeUsual saving
Text, CSV and codeLarge: 60% to 90%
Older Word and Excel files (doc, xls) and BMP imagesGood: 30% to 80%
PDFSmall to medium, depending on its content
JPG and PNG images, video, docx and xlsx filesVery little or none: they are already compressed
    ZIP and RAR filesNone

    Passwords

AES-256 is the strongest. Opens with 7-Zip or WinRAR on Windows, apps like Keka or The Unarchiver on Mac, and most phone apps. Windows Explorer itself can’t open it.

ZipCrypto is for compatibility only. Opens in Windows and macOS without extra software, but its protection is weak and can be broken, so don’t rely on it for sensitive files.

We can’t recover your password. The password stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere. If you forget it, the files can’t be recovered.

Your files stay on your device. Everything runs inside your browser: your files are not uploaded to any server and nothing is kept, and the tool keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

    FAQ

How do I zip a whole folder?

Press “Or choose a folder” and pick it, or drag it into the box from your computer. The folders inside keep their structure in the ZIP.

Will non-English file names show correctly when unzipped?

Yes. File names are written in UTF-8 with the flag that tells programs so, and show correctly on Windows, Mac and phones.

    How do I make a password-protected ZIP?

Type the password before zipping and pick the protection: strong AES-256, or ZipCrypto if the person opening it only has Windows with no extra software.

Why didn’t my photos and videos get much smaller?

They are already compressed in their own format. To shrink photos use Image Compressor before zipping them.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The ZIP is made inside your browser and your files never leave your device. The limit is your device’s memory, so zip huge sets (several GB) with a desktop program.
